Mr. David Aussue Haffner is an accomplished Education and Administration Professional with over three decades of distinguished service in academic leadership, institutional management, and vocational technical education. His career reflects a lifelong commitment to nurturing excellence, promoting innovation, and advancing the quality of education in The Gambia and beyond. Today, as Director of Banutu Business College, he is committed to building a learning environment where students are empowered not only to succeed academically but also to grow into leaders who can positively transform society.
Mr. Haffner holds a Master of Arts in Education (Leadership and Management) from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, a Bachelor’s in Education (Vocational Technical Education) from Huddersfield University, UK, and advanced professional certifications in Leadership, Management, and Technical Education from Germany and the UK. His professional training in carpentry, joinery, and educational development has uniquely positioned him to bridge technical skills with modern leadership and pedagogy.
Currently serving as Head of SBEC International College, Mr. Haffner provides strategic direction, fosters academic excellence, and champions professional development among faculty and staff. He has previously served as Principal and Vice Principal of Armitage High School, School Supervisor at Ndow’s Comprehensive Schools, and Principal Education Officer at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. His leadership at Armitage, The Gambia’s only government boarding secondary school, was marked by remarkable performance.
Beyond administration, Mr. Haffner is a passionate educational reformer and youth mentor, deeply invested in leadership training, vocational education, and capacity-building initiatives. He coordinated Cambridge Professional Development Training and represented The Gambia internationally, including as Chef de Mission at the 3rd Olympic Youth Games (Buenos Aires, 2018) and Delegate to the World Baseball Softball Congress (Osaka, 2019).
Mr. Haffner’s service extends to civic and national development roles: Chief Scout Commissioner, Member of The Gambia Scout Council, Board Member of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, and President of the Gambia Baseball/Softball Association. These positions reflect his dedication to youth empowerment, teamwork, and holistic education.
A lifelong learner, Mr. Haffner’s research includes “Integrating Academic and Vocational Technical Education in Secondary Schools in The Gambia” and “The Impact of the Double-Shift System on Teaching and Learning in Gambian Senior Secondary Schools.” His personal interests include reading, scouting, sports, and cultural activities, which continue to inform his leadership philosophy grounded in discipline, service, and community building.
