Ba Banutu-Gomez

Professor Michael Ba Banutu-Gomez is a faculty member at Rowan University’s William G. Rohrer College of Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University – Weatherhead School of Management in 2001. He also holds a Master’s degree in Management with a minor in Public Policy from Boston University and a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University.

Professor Banutu-Gomez has presented papers at numerous national and international conferences and published them extensively in the fields of Leadership, International Business, Organizational Behavior, Strategy, International Politics and Legal Studies, Management in Developing Countries, Measuring Organizational Leadership in Africa, and Change Management.

He has served as a reviewer for several leading academic journals and conferences, including the International Journal of Business Excellence, Journal of International Business Disciplines, Journal of Current Research in Global Business, Academy of Management, Association for Global Business International Conference, Thunderbird International Journal, Journal of Managerial Issues, and the Eastern Academy of Management. To date, he has presented at twenty-one international academic conferences.

His current research interests include:

At Rowan University, the Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Research honored Professor Banutu-Gomez by naming him to the Wall of Fame in 2001 and 2005. He has received numerous internal and external research awards and grants for his contributions.

Professor Banutu-Gomez has also contributed to academic publishing, such as:

  • Senior Editor of The European Scientific Journal
  • Editor of Economics World, The Journal of American Academy of Business (Cambridge), and The Journal of Business and Retail Management Research (JBRMR)

Beyond academia, he has engaged in consulting work with GEM – Global Excellence in Management Innovation, both nationally and internationally. He also served as Coordinator for OXFAM in West Africa and the Horn of Africa. His sustainable development training programs have been conducted for major global institutions, including the United Nations, UNDP, UNESCO, World Bank, and World Vision.

In 2018, Professor Banutu-Gomez organized a landmark conference on Quality Education and Relevance from Kindergarten to University in The Gambia. He currently teaches and supervises Master’s thesis students at the University of The Gambia (UTG) and serves on the Advisory Committee for the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology in The Gambia.

In addition, Professor Banutu-Gomez is the Founder and Proprietor of Banutu Business College in The Gambia, where he continues to promote educational excellence, leadership development, and sustainable growth in emerging economies.
